What we do:
Small molecule single crystal structure determinations are done in this lab. Students who have crystallographic experience can do their own work.
Equipment:
A Nonius Kappa CCD diffractometer is equipped with a sealed tube generator with Mo radiation. An Oxford Cryosystems Cryostream Cooler provides low temperature data collection capability down to about 90 K using a cooled nitrogen gas stream.
Crystal Structure Databases:
The Cambridge Structural Database resides at the Ohio Supercomputer Center and is accessible to anyone who has a computer account at the OSC.
The Inorganic Crystal Structure Database is available in the lab.
We will do database searches upon request.
User charges for department work are as follows:
$320 complete low temperature structure determination (data collection,
structure solution and refinement)
$160 data collection only
$ 90 for people who do their own data collection, structure
solution and refinement
$ 45 unit cell determination only
The above charges are also for any research groups at OSU or anyone at an Ohio college or university.
Charges for all others:
$600 complete structure determination (data collection,
structure solution and refinement)
$300 data collection only
$150 unassisted complete structure determination
$ 75 unit cell determination only
$ 45 unassisted unit cell determination
Students must provide good quality crystals, as we do not grow crystals in this lab. Advice for obtaining such crystals is free of charge, but there are no guarantees!
