The X-ray Facility of the Office of Biotechnology provides a Rigaku/MSC rotating anode generator for single crystal x-ray diffraction studies, training in crystallography techniques, and computers with crystallography software. Facility services are provided on a fee basis and include consultation on protein purification, crystallization, and crystal optimization, as well as assistance with crystal screening, data collection, data processing and structure determination and analysis. The following outline is used for general planning of a crystallography project:
• Protein purification: concentrated protein > 95% pure
• Crystallization: 3D, mountable crystals
• Crystal screening: search for high quality, high resolution crystals
• Data collection: using facility or synchrotron equipment
• Structure determination: processing, phasing, refinement, modeling, analysis, deposition
