1. Introduction
　 The Postdoctoral Station in Biological Sciences and Biotechnology was initiated in May 1999. The fellowships cover mainly two subjects: biophysics, biochemistry and molecular biology, among which the biophysics division at Tsinghua University was qualified as the best in the country since 1987.
　This station is strong in faculties, consisting 22 full professors, 20 of them being Ph. D. Supervisors; one being the president of a nation-wide professional association; one being the vice president of a nation-wide professional association; four being “Changjiang Plan†professors; four being awardees of the “State Outstanding Young Scientists Foundationâ€; three being “Scholars of the next century†selected by the State Education Commission; two being winners of the Hong Kong QiuShi Prize in biology and medicine in 1999 (only 5 people won this in 1999); one being member of the State “863 Plan†expert group; One being member of the State “973 Plan†expert group. Nine faculties are in charge of the State “973 Plan†projects, seven faculties are in charge of the State “863 Plan†projects, three are in charge of the “Ninth Five-Year†key projects, two are in charge of the State Key Projects of China National Science Foundation. The total annual funding is 5-7 million yuans over the last few years.
　 Laboratories of this postdoctoral station, including “the State Key Laboratory of Biombrane and Membrane Biotechnology †and “the Biochip Research and Development Centerâ€, are well equipped and moved into the new Life Science Building recently. The total equipment investment is about 30 million yuans, and total area is about 6000 square meters.
　All the computers in the research laboratories and main administrative offices are connected with the INTERNET.
